Jodie is Principal and Founder of JWC Legal. Her practice focuses on complex intellectual property disputes and counseling, particularly relating to patents and trade secrets. Jodie assists her clients in a range of IP matters, from strategic IP portfolio counseling (including advising on the acquisition and sale of patents), to pre-litigation strategy through trial and appellate issues.
Jodie’s background in technology and economics enables her to anticipate, assess, and strategize technical as well as valuation/damages issues. Moreover, she effectively communicates these concepts to her audiences, including juries. In litigation, Jodie specializes in working with expert witnesses on technical and damages/economic topics, including conducting direct and cross-examinations of experts in federal jury trials.
Jodie’s expertise in the legal, technical, and economics aspects of IP is demonstrated by her significant trial experience—and every one of those cases has resulted in a positive outcome for her clients. Having worked on some of the most high-profile IP disputes in recent history, Jodie understands the interplay of IP issues with global business strategy.
Additionally, Jodie has significant experience with patent disputes in Section 337 investigations, from Initial Determinations to Enforcement Proceedings, before the U.S. International Trade Commission (U.S.I.T.C.). She has served as trial counsel in some of the most contentious Section 337 investigations, including Qualcomm v. Apple and Cisco v. Arista.
Jodie also has experience in patent prosecution, having examined patent applications relating to business cryptography, e-commerce, and business methods, at the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.
Prior to founding JWC Legal, Jodie began her legal career in the Intellectual Property group of Kirkland & Ellis LLP.
Jodie is admitted to practice in California. She will also be admitted to practice in Colorado and D.C. soon.
