Derek is an experienced commercial and trial attorney who has achieved significant victories for his clients. He has represented clients before state and federal courts, including the Supreme Court of the United States, as well as  before domestic and international arbitration tribunals.

Prior to joining JWC Legal, Derek was a Partner and Of Counsel at Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where he represented large and small clients across a variety of cases including contract disputes, securities litigation, civil liberties, and intellectual property litigation. 

Prior to beginning his legal career, Derek was an film industry executive, and has a deep familiarity and continued involvement with the entertainment industry.  Combined with his legal training and experience, he has expertise with contract negotiation, union considerations, and First Amendment issues.
